In a news that will bring cheer to thousands of students studying in the UK, the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced to reintroduce two-year post-study work visa for international students.

This means students will be able to stay in the UK for two more years after graduation and explore further studies or find a job. As a large number of Indian students fly to the UK for college, the relaxed visa rules would benefit them. This will also enable the European country attract international students and maintain their hub status for education.

Of late, the US, Australia, Canada and New Zealand have emerged as popular choice for Indian students going abroad but UK has also been a key destination for decades.

As per the new rule, students can work at any skill level and then later switch to a skilled work visa provided they find a job meeting the requirements.

British High Commission in India termed the development as fantastic news for Indian students as they would now be able to spend more time in the UK after completing their degree, allowing them to gain further skills and experience.

“It demonstrates our global outlook and will ensure that we continue to attract the best & brightest,” the Commission said through a Twitter post.

“The UK has some of the best education establishments, best higher education establishments in the world and we see more students coming from around the world every year that’s particularly true in the case of India. Last year, we saw 42% increase in the number of students coming from India to the UK,” said Jan Thompson, British Deputy High Commissioner to India.
