After Ek Villain, Sidharth Malhotra and Riteish Deshmukh are all set to team up for Milap Zaveri’s directorial Marjaavaan, an out-and-out masala flick that will remind you of 80-90s action films. But in today’s context, the film looks a bit of a misfit with action sequences a little outdated and dialogue delivery over the top and melodramatic. Sidharth plays Raghu, the quintessential larger than life 80s Bollywood hero who is in love with Zoya, a mute girl, played by Tara Sutaria. Riteish Deshmukh, who plays a vertically challenged man is the villain in their story.
DIALOGUE-BAAZI, KHOON-KHARABA AND MORE
From dialogues, punches to the hero’s desi swag, the film’s trailer gives a glimpse into the characters and storyline of the movie.
“Mandir aur masjid dono milenge, guzrega is desh ki kisi bhi gali se, madad milegi har kisi ko. Maango yaa ali se ya bajrang bali se,” enters Raghu as he beats a goon and wipes blood off the corner of his mouth.
Riteish Deshmukh, the vertically challenged villain, mouths dialogues like: “Pata Hai kameenepan ki height kya hai..3 foot..Main rakshas nahi hoon, main to avatar hoon..Raghu, chhod de deewangi, ye ladki bhi maregi aur tu bhi marega.”
Sidharth’s chemistry with Tara Sutaria is probably the best thing about the trailer.
At the film’s trailer launch, the cast of Marjaavaan opened up about the movie.
‘SO EXCITED TO PLAY A TYPICAL HERO’
“Milaap believes in the cinema that we all grew up watching. Hero, hero ki tarah acting kare, entry mare, ya uski dialogue baazi ho. So I personally grew up on cinema like this. For the first time, I got this opportunity to play a hero in a film. When Milaap gave me the narration and I when I heard the dialogues, I got excited and thought I should do the film,” Sidharth Malhotra said about his role.
“I got inspired to become a hero watching big action heroes, saying heavy duty dialogues, doing action somewhat like this. This is the first time in my career I am playing a hero, all thanks to Milaap and the whole team,” he added.
‘LOVE THE SWAG OF MY CHARACTER’
Riteish Deshmukh loves the swag and confidence of his character who might be a dwarf, but is still larger than life.
“The character might be vertically challenged but he feels everyone is dwarf in front of him. So that’s his attitude and arrogance, negativity and cruelty. I like the fact that he doesn’t bother about his short height and has a swag. Besides, Milaap Zaveri’s dialogues add weight to the character,” says Riteish.
Tara Sutaria feels it’s a challenging role. “What drew me to the film was that Zoya is a mute character. Before starting the shooting, I learnt sign language for a month and I am lucky to have learnt this. In the film she communicates in sign language and that’s a wonderful communication between her character and Raghu’s,” she said.
Marjaavaan is all set to hit the theatres on November 22 this year. The film also stars Rakul Preet Singh.
