Aamir Khan shares powerful post on importance of emotional hygiene

On the occasion of World Mental Health Week 2019, Aamir Khan shared a post highlighting the important of emotional hygience and preventing depression.

New Delhi: Actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan, on the occasion of World Mental Health Week 2019, has stressed upon the importance of emotional hygiene to beat depression.

The actor is among a bevvy of Bollywood stars who are spreading awareness about mental health from Deepika Padukone to Shah Rukh Khan.

Aamir had dedicated an entire episode of his production Satyamev Jayate, a talk show, around starting a conversation on mental health.

Here’s what he wrote:

“#Worldmentalhealthweek2019: Emotional hygiene is as important as physical hygiene. Being aware and sharing difficult emotions relieves stress. Physical exercise also can beat stress. Tackling it early prevents depression. Any one can suffer from depression. Timely help works #DrHarish139,” Aamir Khan quoted noted psychologist Dr Harish Shetty.

Aamir Khan has been vocal about incidents of his life when his own mental health took a hit.

The actor during the promotion of a movie had once shared how his 1995 film Aatank Hi Aatank starring Juhi Chawla affected his mental health for many months and he could not sleep for more than 2-3 hours in the night post the film’s debacle. 

Aamir also talked about the period when he and his show Satyamev Jayate’s team slipped into depression and had to take medication due to show’s heavy content. 

Apart from Aamir, several other Bollywood stars have talked about battling depression. Deepika Padukone especially has shared her experience in detail and revealed how she felt a pit in her stomach during the period and how her family and friends supported her. Deepika has been working for the cause and her story inspired many to take mental health seriously.
