Why ban Bigg Boss 13 when it’s more balanced than its predecessors

New Delhi:
One week into Bigg Boss 13 and there is a call for banning the show yet again. A Delhi-based traders’ lobby group has accused the show of being vulgar. There is uproar on internet as well with hashtags like #BoycottBiggBoss and #JehadFelataBiggBoss trending almost every day.

But Bigg Boss 13 is far less controversial than some of its previous seasons. It is in fact quite balanced and entertains without indulging in mindless masala. Barring a few things that are irking a certain section of viewers, like sharing of beds by boys and girls and a certain contestant demanding kisses from girls (as a joke), the rest of the episodes so far are pretty decent.

Almost every year, there is a troublemaker in the house who crosses the limits of decency and says and does things mostly to grab eyeballs. From Dolly Bindra, Pooja Missra, Priyanka Jagga, Kamal Rashid Khan to Zubair Khan, some of these housemates were even kicked out of the house.

So far in Bigg Boss 13, nobody has shown the tendencies of being a troublemaker, except may be Shefali Bagga, who personally attacked actresses Aarti Singh and Rashami Desai during a task, but later apologized to them saying she did all this for the task. Now, if we go back to Bigg Boss 11, which is still kind of fresh in the memory of viewers, it had needless controversies, to the extent that it seemed scripted.

In the first week itself in BB 11, Zubair Khan was verbally abusing girls, Vikas Gupta had tried escaping the house and Priyank Sharma was thrown out of the house after beating Akash Dadlani. Its predecessor Bigg Boss 10 had troublemakers like Swami Om and Priyanka Jagga who were ultimately thrown out of the house by Salman Khan.

Bigg Boss 13 on the other hand is playing safe while ensuring enough entertainment. There is a ‘connection theme’, and all the housemates, mostly single, are being encouraged to form connections (a la Splitsvilla?) Shehnaz Gill and Paras Chhabra are on their way to become lovebirds, but they are not making others uncomfortable with their show of intimacy, unlike Bandgi and Puneesh from Bigg Boss 11 who seemed to be honeymooning in the BB house.

In the coming days, loads of twists and turns are promised in this tedah season, as Bigg Boss express will reach its finale in another three weeks. With one week gone without eviction and Salman Khan claiming that half of the contestants will be out after the first finale, there might be new wild car entries that can change the course of the show.

But going by the first week, Bigg Boss 13 seems to be going in the right direction.
