Ayodhya verdict: Supreme Court on Saturday has given the disputed land of 2.77 acre to Hindus, and directed the centre to allot an alternate 5 acre land to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a mosque.

Supreme Court on Saturday has given the disputed land in Ayudhya to Hindus, and directed the centre to allot an alternate 5 acre land to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a mosque. The apex court said the mosque should be constructed at a “prominent site”.

In a unanimous judgement, a 5-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, and also comprising of Justices S A Bobde, D Y Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer, said possession of the disputed land rights will be handed over to the deity Ram Lalla, who is one of the three litigants in the case. The possession however will remain with a central government receiver. The SC directed the cenre that a trust should be formed within three months for the construction of the temple.

The SC upheld the ASI report, which concluded that a temple existed at the dispute site.

The reactions have been pouring in from all quarters after the historic decision by the Supreme Court.

AIMPLB (All India Muslim Personal Law Board) member Zafaryab Jilani has said they are not satisfied with verdict and will seek for a review.

“The order has a lot of contradictions. 5 acre of land has no value for us. We are not satisfied with the verdict and will look for a review,” said Zafaryab Jilani, Sunni Waqf Board lawyer.

“Supreme Court’s verdict has come, we are in favour of the construction of Ram Temple. This judgement not only opened the doors for the temple’s construction but also closed the doors for BJP and others to politicise the issue,” said Randeep Surjewala, Congress.

“I welcome the Supreme Court verdict which is in keeping with the sentiments of millions of Hindus and also the country. The parth for construction of Ram temple is now clear,” said Mahant Narendra Giri, head of the All India Akhara Parishad.

“We respect the verdict of the apex court. We will wait for the opinion of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and then study the verdict in detail in legal terms, said Maulana Yasoon Abbas, spokesperson, All India Shia Personal Law Board”

“After hearing the arguments of all the parties, the five judges of the SC bench gave their verdict unanimously. We welcome the decision of the Supreme Court. Today the SC gave the decision after several decades of controversy. The years-old dispute ended today, I appeal to all to maintain peace and harmony,” Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi.

“It would have been justice if the SC had appointed one body to build both Mandir and Masjid in Ayodhya, a single body responsible for both,” said Tushar Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi’s great grandson.

“Congratulations to the SC for this historic decision. The dispute that was there for many years has now been resolved. Justice delivered to all the parties, keeping in mind the sensitivity of the decision. Now there is no other issue left for discussion in the country. Now there will be discussion on development, the country will grow and progress. People will get new employment opportunities,” said Chirag Paswan, LJP chief.

“I wholeheartedly welcome the historic judgment of the Hon. Supreme Court. This has brought joy and relief to people of both communities from a long-standing dispute” said Sri Sri Ravishankar.
