Anupama was all of 13 when she faced the distressing acid attack. A stalker, 12 years Anupama’s senior, would follow her sister and her around, often throwing things at them to catch their attention.
Fed up of his constant harassment, Anupama complained to her family and her brother went over to the man’s house to stop the stalking. It made the man so angry that he snuck into the sisters’ bedroom one evening, and threw acid at the two of them.
Anupama bore the brunt of the attack, while her sister escaped with burns to her stomach. Sadly, Anupama’s face, chest, and arms were disfigured beyond recognition.
Meer Foundation is a non-profit organization that focuses on the rehabilitation of Acid Attack survivors under the work for Women Empowerment. The organisation is helping out 120 acid attack victims by helping them get the surgeries done. SRK founded the organisation in 2013 and it’s named after his father Mir Taaj Mohammed Khan.
SRK who’s also the host of TED Talks Nayi Baat has been taking up socially relevant issues from single use plastic to women empowerment on his show.
It’s a festive celebration of hope & togetherness at #MeerFoundation. We are proud to have organised surgeries for burn and acid attack survivors on this auspicious day in #Delhi #ToGETherStronger. Our pursuit was powered by the presence and support of @iamsrk & Meer family. pic.twitter.com/HOlpf2HG4Q
