New Delhi: Karan Johar who became father to twins Yash and Roohi via surrogacy in 2017 posted a heartfelt message for his children on their third birthday.

The prolific filmmaker and TV host mentions how he could not have done it without his mother who has been co-parenting Yash and Roohi along with him. Johar thanked the universe for blessing him with two beautiful children.

“I am a single parent in social status…but in actuality am definitely not….my mother so beautifully and emotionally co parents our babies with me…I could never have taken such a big decision without her solid support…the twins turn 3 today and our feeling of being blessed continues with renewed vigour with every passing year…I thank the universe for completing us with Roohi and Yash….,” Johar wrote on Instagram.

Johar had expressed his wish to have children in his book An Unsuitable boy via adoption or surrogacy. He had earlier shared how there was this huge void in his life that needed to be filled by his children.

“Being a single parent is really daunting and scary. Because I think it takes a mother and a father to complete the upbringing of a child. In many ways you could say that having Yash and Roohi is full of love but it is also a selfish decision. It is because I want that love for myself. There was a large empty space in my life that needed to be filled by children,” he had said in India Today Conclave.

The names of his children Yash and Roohi have a connection with KJo’s parents. While Yash is named after his father, Roohi is a rearrangement of Karan’s mother’s name Hiroo.

“Oddly, they call me dad and call my mom ‘mama’. They don’t call her daadi. Because I feel we are co-parenting them. So I am trying very hard that both of us fulfil the roles of mother and a father completely,” Karan had said at the conclave.

Karan Johar is also doing new things in his career front. He has just announced his next venture Takht starring Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor, to be released on December 24, 2021.

Johar also co-directed Ghost Stories along with Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee for Netflix. He also hosted a dating show What The Love for the global streaming giant.
