3 killed in accident during Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 shoot

In a major accident on the sets of Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, three people died and nine got injured.

Chennai: In a major accident on the sets of Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, three people died and nine got injured as a crane came crashing down on people engaged in putting up a set for a scene. A heavy duty light that was mounted on the crane also fell.

The accident happened on the set at EVP Film City near Poonamallee, Chennai late on Wednesday. The three who died on the spot were identified as Krishna, 34, an assistant director, Madhu, 29, and Chandran, 60 were part of the catering team.

Immediately after the accident, Kamal Haasan who was also present on the sets of the show helped take victims to a private hospital. Haasan was there on the sets along with actress Kajal Aggarwal and director Shankar but none of them got hurt as they were away from the accident spot.

The actor later tweeted about the incident and expressed his heartfelt condolences for the deceased crew members. “Despite the fact that I have been through many accidents, today’s was the most horrific one I have been through. I have lost three of my colleagues. More than my pain, their families’ grief is more worse. I will be a part of their family and share their grief. My deepest condolences to them.”.

 

“I have spoken to the doctors of those who were injured. Proper first aid was promptly carried out. Let’s spend the night hoping that the injured recover well,” he added.

 

Lycra Productions, the producers of Indian 2 also issued a statement. “No words could ease what we truly feel. We are extremely saddened with the unfortunate accident that happened at the sets of Indian 2 yesterday (19th Feb 2020). We have lost 3 of our most hardworking technicians – Krishna (Assistant Director), Chandran (Art Assistant) and Madhu (Production assistant). Our deepest condolences to their family members. May their soul rest in peace.”
