Tata Motors asks some staff to work from home in the wake of Covid-19

With growing cases of Coronavirus in the country, consumer durables major Hindustan Uniliver Ltd (HUL) has also asked 4,000 staff in the country to work from home starting March 17.

New Delhi: Readying its next level response to fight the spread of Coronavirus, Tata Motors has asked employees who could perform their tasks remotely to work from home.

In an internal communication to its staff, the company said that employees in office based roles including third party staff in Company HQ (Headquarters), Sales and Marketing HQ, in enabling functions in regional offices and Purchase team based in Pune will work from home effective Monday 16th March 2020.

“They are expected to remain connected and participate in all official engagements remotely during working hours,” the company said.

In the wake of rising cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19), Tata Motors has implemented a slew of measures to contain the deadly virus. It has developed a three tier response plan based on incidence of infection in cities it has offices or plants. Some of the measures include replacing biometric attendance system with card swiping, switch to virtual meetings, restrictions in visit to plants and suspending international travel.

Domestic travel that involves use of public transport such (air, rail or road) is subject to approval by competent executives.

“The situation has been fast evolving over the last few days which has led to Coronavirus being declared a pandemic by WHO and its spread in India appears to be accelerating,” the company has said.

The temporary measures introduced by the company would vary with roles of its employees and remain in force till further notice.

“We will constantly monitor the spread of Coronavirus and move swiftly to extend them to additional functions/sites if the situation demands,” Tata Motors said.
