New Delhi: Konkona Sen Sharma and Bhumi Pednekar team up for a strong female-oriented subject in their upcoming film Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare helmed by Made in Heaven filmmaker Alankrita Shrivastava.

It is the story of cousins Dolly and Kitty who are hiding a secret from their families to maintain their picture perfect lifestyle.

“Set in a newly developing industrial area on the outskirts of New Delhi, Dolly Kitty aur Woh Chamakte Sitare, chronicles the quiet transgression of two cousins (women), who through their complicated love- hate equation, enable each other to find freedom,” says the official synopsis.

Produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under their banner Balaji Telefilms, the film also features Vikrant Massey and Amol Parashar in prominent roles.

The film had a world premiere at the 24th Busan International Film Festival under the section “A Window on Asian Cinema” on 4 October 2019 and received accolades for its subject and performances.

Two cousins Dolly and Kajal share a secret. They live in the suburbs of New Delhi. Dolly is a middle-class working mother with a son and a hardworking husband. They are excited as they plan to move to a newly built luxury apartment.

Kajal moves from rural India to live in a city, but the opportunities are very few for a young woman with little skills. So she works as a cyber-lover under the name Kitty on a dating app and meets a man. Now the two cousins who were earlier critical of each other’s life, share each other’s secrets.

“I am a proud feminist. All my work is extremely feminist whether it was Turning 30 or Lipstick or Made in Heaven or Dolly Kitty. Women should own feminism because it means men and women should have equal rights and equal opportunities. Women should have the right to live their own life and fulfil their dreams and desires regardless of any moral judgement and even ‘Dolly Kitty’ is about that,” Alankrita had said earlier in an interview.
