New Delhi: The world battled with coronavirus with all its might for a major part of the year from home. All the uncertainities, the health emergency, and the changes around them made people stay glued to their internet devices looking for answers.
The yearly survey of Google shows that going by the queries people posed on the search engine, the world became a kinder, more health-conscious, less stressful, and family-oriented this year.
Here are some of the top searches by people around the globe in 2020:
1. Call it the lack of activity or the general feeling of restlessness in people, one of the top queries on Google this year was ‘insomnia’. May the world have a better sleep the coming year.
2. Ever woken up disoriented and wondering ‘what day is it’ during lockdown? Well that was exactly what a lot of people searched on Google in April the first thing in the morning.
3. ‘Cranberry juice’ was one of the trending words of Google this year worldwide. A research by the Institute of Molecular Virology, Ulm University Medical Center said it was found that green tea, cranberry juice and pomegranate juice have the potential to kill the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
4. The world apart from gorging on good food also got back to basics by spending more time with nature. No wonder ‘how to start a vegetable garden’ was searched a lot during this year.
5. The ongoing Coronavirus pandemic led many us to think about the ways we can change the world for a better future. ‘How to change the world’ thus became the topic of interest for a lot of people this year.
6. Our lives were literally brought to standstill for the major part of the year and saw us contemplating on environmental issues. ‘How to stop climate change’ was the top concern for people around the world.
7. When you can’t step out of your houses, art connoisseurs find a way to get their creative appetite. Around the world, ‘virtual museum’ was quite a hit.
8. In India, people focussed on their health and fitness to build up immunity against the deadly virus and make up for the lack of activity in their lives. Search topic ‘well being’ saw a surge in 2020.
9. Small was big this year as people not only found joy in little things of life but they also searched for ‘support small business’ this year.
10: People followed their instinct and helped out the lesser privileged with food and other necessary things this year more than ever before. The search topic ‘food bank’ was all over the internet in 2020.
11. With schools and colleges shut and kids opting for digital learning, the scope for online education is on rise and the search topic ‘how to be a teacher’ reflects exactly that.
12. This is not so difficult to guess that learning coding became quite a rage on internet this year with even smaller kids lining up to upgrade their skills.
13. The world wanted to ‘help’ people and causes this year. ‘How to help Australia fires’, ‘how to help Black Lives Matter’, how to help during coronavirus’, ‘how to help Beirut’ thus made it to the top searches.
14. And in the middle of all the chaos, people could finally remind themselves that their inner lives matter.
