Elon Musk donates $5 million to Khan Academy

Founded in 2008, the American non-profit organisation has 115 million registered users across the world. It offers short lessons in the form of videos to help educate students across 190 countries.

New Delhi: Revolutionary entrepreneur Elon Musk has donated $5 million to the American non-profit educational organisation Khan Academy that offers free lessons in Math, Science and Humanities in multiple languages.

Musk who recently got the title of world’s richest man has committed the funds through his Musk Foundation. He co-founded and leads Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink and The Boring Company.

As the co-founder and CEO of Tesla, Elon leads all product design and manufacturing of the company’s electric cars, battery products and solar energy products. Musk’s SpaceX is developing Starship – a fully reusable transportation system that will carry crew and cargo to the Moon, Mars and beyond. One of its exceptionally ambitious plans is to make humans a multi-planet species by creating a self-sustaining city on the Mars.

Supported primarily by philanthropy, Khan Academy offers educational tools for parents and teachers too. Nearly 20 million learners use Khan Academy’s digital platforms every month in 190 countries and 46 languages.

Founded in 2008 by Salman Khan, the Khan Academy has 115 million registered users across the world. Besides offering free tools for teachers and parents to track student progress, Khan Academy’s platform includes more than 70,000 practice problems, as well as videos, articles and quizzes.

“I just want to give a huge shout and thank you to Elon Musk and everyone at the Musk foundation. For their credible generous support for Khan Academy, they just recently gave a $5 million donation to Khan Academy,” Khan Academy founder said in a video posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.

The visionary added that this donation will help the Khan Academy and its team to accelerate their content, software, and learning more engaging for over a million of students and teachers around the world.

On its website, Khan Academy has stated that it is a nonprofit educational organization supported primarily by philanthropy. Further, it is running at a deficit.
