New Delhi: In what would help the victims of acid attacks join the mainstream and live a life of dignity, the government has notified posts under reserved category for disabled persons across various levels including Group A.
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities has notified 3,566 posts in central government as suitable for persons with benchmark disabilities with disability of 40% or more.
The provision has been made in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. The total posts include 1,046 in Group A, 515 in Group B, 1724 in Group C and 281 in Group D positions.
“Posts have also been identified suitable for new categories of persons with disabilities such as dwarfism, acid attack victims, muscular dystrophy, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, specific learning disability, mental illness and multiple disabilities have been added,” Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment said in a statement.
The list of posts notified by the government on January 4 is based on the recommendations of an expert committee constituted under the chairpersonship of the Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
The panel consisted of experts, persons with benchmark disabilities and representatives from various associations of persons with disabilities.
A list of 2,973 posts identified suitable for persons with benchmark disabilities was last notified in July, 2013. As compared to the earlier notified list, 593 new posts have been added.
