New Delhi: Kajol’s digital debut Tribhanga: Tedhi Medhi Crazy was lapped up by the web audiences with the show’s tedhi medi crazy protagonists winning hearts with their independent spirit but imperfect bonds. On the other hand Saif Ali Khan-starrer Tandav failed to take the digital world by storm because of its poor execution and lackluster performances.

A couple of new web series announcements looked promising. Ronit Roy and Richa Chadha are pairing up for Voot Select’s thriller Candy, while Shweta Basu Prasad plays a doting daughter to Raghubir Yadav in slice-of-life drama Jamun. Also, Jennifer Winget is making her comeback with Code M 2.

Tribhanga: Tedhi Medhi Crazy gets thumbs up

An ode to ‘not so perfect mothers-daughter bonds’ is being adored by viewers and critics alike. The Kajol, Tanvi Azmi and Mithila Palkar starrer revolves around three characters–Nayan, Anu and Masha. Their complex relationship with each other is shaped by the events that take place earlier in their life but moments of reflection come when certain truths come out.

Kajol plays Odissi dancer Anuradha who resents her mother Nayan, a writer. Mithila is Anu’s daughter Masha and is expecting a child.

The film is written and directed by Renuka Shahane and has an ensemble cast consisting of Kajol, Tanvi Azmi, Mithila Palkar, Kunal Roy Kapur, Kanwaljeet Singh, Vaibhav Tatwawadi and Manav Gohil. It released on Netflix on January 15.

Tandav fails to live up to expectations

Saif Ali Khan-starrer Tandav was much-awaited by the web audiences, but the series has met with a drab response because of its ill-developed storyline and characters. The absence of attention to detail and intelligent screenplay ruin the experience of watching this Amazon Prime Video web series.

Samar Pratap played by Saif Ali Khan plots and schemes to replace his three-time incumbent father Devki Nandan as Prime Minister. On the other hand there’s also a sub-plot revolving around student leader Shiva Shekhar played by Mohd Zeeshan Ayub trying to get support from the youth. In between the characters of Anuradha Kishore, a power-hungry politician and Gurpal, Samar’s associate, Gauahar Khan as Maithili who’s Anuradha’s right-hand person, Anup Soni as Kailash add to this messy and menacing political ‘tandav’.

Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, this political thriller has the ensemble cast of Dimple Kapadia, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Sunil Grover, Kritika Kamra, Sarah Jane Dias, Kritika Awasthi, Bhavna Choudhary, Vikhyat Gulati, Kunal Gupta, Tasneem Khan, Niharika Kundu, Bhoomika Meena, Gaurav Parajuli, Jatin Sharma, Indra Mohan Singh, Latin Ghai, Dino Morea, Anup Soni, Paresh Pahuja, Neha Hinge, Samit Gambhir, Parv Kalia, Kumud Mishra, Gauahar Khan, Sandhya Mridul, Shonali Nagrani, Lalit Ambardar, Gautam Babbar, Saurabh Chauhan, Shobhit Johri, Hiten Tejwani, Amyra Dastur, Sukhmani Sadana, Rajiv Gupta, Keshav Puri, Deepika Negi among others.

Ronit Roy and Richa Chadha to pair up for Voot Select’s thriller Candy

After the success of Asur and The Gone Game, Voot Select has announced its latest original Candy, an action-thriller set in a boarding school in a misty hill town. Starring Ronit Roy and Richa Chadha in lead roles, the web series promises to keep the viewers glued with its adrenaline-charged momentum.

With several layers to its narrative, in Candy, “the plot thickened with stories of drugs, politics, ambition and murder, is sweet as sin.”

Ronit Roy who was previously seen in Hostages in a leading role is excited about yet another challenging role and considers himself lucky to be given a chance to work with so many talented directors that have help his learning curve tremendously.

Richa Chadha who was last seen in Amazon Prime Video’s anthology series Unpaused has a knack for choosing complex roles and something that can be played with depth. The actress is also excited about sharing screenspace with Ronit Roy for the first time.

Shweta Basu Prasad plays a doting daughter to Raghubir Yadav in slice-of-life drama Jamun

OTT viewers are in for a treat as ace actors Raghubir Yadav and Shweta Prasad come together for a heartwarming slice-of-drama Jamun that revolves around a father’s quest of finding the right match for his squinted daughter.

The story has its own twists and turns and emotional wavelength that will surely leave viewers thinking about their own family members.

Jamun, an enticing film narrates a story of a father’s dream of finding the right match for his squinted daughter. The story not only depicts the daily quarrels of mundane life but highlights the bittersweet relation between a father-daughter along with the struggle the father goes through after being hit by Parkinson’s disease.

Jennifer Winget makes a comeback as Monica Mehra in Code M Season 2

After the success of the first season of Code M, Jennifer Winget is once again back on duty as Major Monica Mehra and her mantra and mission remains the same –country above family. The filming of the second season will begin soon as it air on Alt Balaji.
