Mumbai: Noted business leader and Founder-Chairman of bulk drug manufacturer G. Amphray Laboratories Ramu S Deora has been honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award by Basic Chemicals, Cosmetics & Dyes Export Promotion Council (CHEMEXCIL).
The award function was held in Mumbai where Hon’ble Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel conferred the prestigious award.
Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Minister said, “Chemical industry is one of the fastest growing industries with four very important pillars – dyes, organic chemicals, inorganic chemicals, and agrochemicals. In so far as its contribution to the Indian economy is concerned it’s about 6.7% of the GDP. The size of the industry being US$ 163 billion is projected to grow to US$ 304 billion in the next two years, which is by the year 2025. So, we have big hopes from the industry India today is the sixth largest producer of chemicals in the world and if you only look at Asia region it is third after Japan. I think there is huge potential that lies in this industry and there is so much more we can do in terms of the export figures we achieve.”
She said that the Ministry is aware of the chemical industry’s issues and tries to resolve most of them.
The Minister further said, “(In) this year’s Budget also, an important decision regarding custom duty (was) taken just for the benefit of this industry. PLI (production-linked incentives) has been introduced in 14 sectors, as the capex increases to Rs 3 lakh crore it is also going to benefit your industry. RoDTEP benefits have been extended to you. Of course, you are demanding certain revisions and the Department of Revenue is looking into it and we are also pushing it. So, a lot of your issues including the inclusion in the PLI are all under consideration by the Ministry of Commerce.”
Mr. Deora, Founder-Chairman of G. Amphray Laboratories, is an exemplary business leader, a multi-faceted figure in the world of business, and an acknowledged leader on the export front. He has won several laurels for his outstanding contributions to promoting international trade, exports from India, and investments in India.
The Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr. Deora recognises his consistent work over the last almost six decades in promoting exports from India. Over the decades, in various leadership roles at industry bodies, he worked closely with the government and its agencies to facilitate exports from India to countries across the world and trade blocks.
He served as President for four terms at the apex exports promotion body Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO). He was also a Member of the Board of Trade (BOT) set up by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.
