Narendra Modi is known for delivering spectacular speeches, a key skill that helped him reach the high office of Prime Minister. Not once but twice. Before that he remained at the helm in Gujarat besides occasionally being in national spotlight. Ever since he became the Prime Minister of India, he has been under global spotlight. He was definitely discussed internationally earlier too but for wrong reasons — communal riot in Gujarat in 2002.
But all the controversies involving him have been left far behind since 2014 when he took his BJP to landslide victory in general elections. Since then he has only grown in standing, stature and strength. On Sunday night, he shared stage with the world’s most powerful leader and American President Donald Trump at Howdy Modi event at Houston, Texas.
So far, one has heard mostly Modi being praised by others. But at the much-trumpeted event in the US where almost 50,000 Indian-Americans came to participate, it was Modi who was all praise for Trump. It seemed Modi had kept all the words of appreciation for the US President. Modi is just fantastic in public speaking.
Despite Gujarati being his first language, he is excellent in Hindi. And when needed, he switches to English in his typical tone, tenor and pitch.
Here is what Modi said for President Trump while “presenting” him to Indian-Americans at the event and those tuned in from far and wide countries.
1. We have very special person with us. He does not need any introduction. His name is familiar to every person on the Planet!!
2. President Trump’s name comes in almost all the conversations on global politics. His every word is followed by tens of millions. He was a household name and very popular even before he went on to occupy the highest office in this great country.
3. From CEO to Commander-in-Chief, from boardroom to the Oval office, from studio to global stage, from politics to the economy to security, he has left a deep and lasting mark everywhere.
4. President Trump has already made American economy strong. He has achieved much for the United States and for the world.
PM Modi after making the introduction, made his speech even more powerful by using alliteration and rhyming words, the key art very few Indian politicians possess. He went on to say that people are at the heart of Indo-US relationship. They are there from Houston to Hyderabad, from Boston to Bengaluru, from Chicago to Simla, from Los Angeles to Ludhiana, from New Jersey to New Delhi. Modi said that they all, despite it being late Sunday night, were glued to their TVs as they are witnessing history in making.
5. “Mr President, you had introduced me to your family in 2017 and today I have the honour to introduce you to my family. Over a billion Indians and people of Indian heritage around the globe. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you , my friend, a friend of India, a great American President, Mr Donald Trump,” he said to the cheer-leading Indian-Americans.
Then PM Modi let the President Trump take over the stage to address over 50,000-strong crowd at NRG stadium in Houston assembled for Howdy Modi.
