New Delhi: MP Congress rebel Jyotiraditya Scindia has resigned from the party ending all hopes of possible patch-up with the central leadership.

In his resignation to interim party Chief Sonia Gandhi, the rebel leader has said he wants to start a fresh journey. Scindia is now set to join rival BJP and get generously rewarded, a Rajya Sabha seat, ministerial position at centre and plum ministries in state government for his cohorts.

Face of Congress Party for almost two decades, Scindia served as a Minister in Manmohan Singh government. He has, however, been at loggerheads with his own party ever since Kamal Nath was made Chief Minister in Madhya Pradesh ignoring him.

It may be noted that Scindia had lost last Lok Sabha election from Guna in Madhya Pradesh, a family pocket borough. As against this, Kamal Nath ensured Congress candidate won from Chindwara which he has represented in Lok Sabha for decades and considered a party bastion.

In political circles, the gossip has been making rounds that Scindia was unhappy with Kamal Nath government and it was the reason he occasionally threw tantrums. But Kamal Nath government or central Congress leadership ignored him.

Failing to get his way in the party, Scindia is learnt to have been preparing for unsettling Kamal Nath government.

Nearly 20-24 Congress MLAs have been behind Scindia emboldening his effort to sink Congress ship in the state.

With preparations complete, Scindia on Tuesday gave up his primary membership from the party to make switch to BJP. Before putting in his papers, Scindia met both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to seal the deal.

In his resignation, Scindia said that the aim and purpose of his life has been to serve the people and it would remain the same going forward.

“While my aim and purpose remain the same as it has always been from the very beginning, to serve the people of my state and country, I believe I am unable to do this anymore within this party,” he said while parting ways from Congress.

“To reflect and realise the aspirations of my people and my workers I believe it is best that I now look ahead at a fresh start,” he added.

With this, the BJP is now set for forming its government in Madhya Pradesh. The state governor Lalji Tandon who was off to his home state for Holi has returned to Bhopal to ensure transition happens swiftly.
