New Delhi: Riding high on the popular demand for green vehicles, country’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki on Monday launched the BS6 S-CNG variant of its multi-purpose van (MPV) Eeco.

Maruti Suzuki Eeco was launched in January 2010 and has crossed the mark of 6.7 lakh unit cumulative sales. In the van segment, the Eeco enjoys dominant position with 87 per cent market share.

The BS6 CNG variant of the Eeco is equipped with factory fitted S-CNG with the carmaker claiming that it is specially tuned and calibrated to deliver optimum performance and enhanced drivability across all kinds of terrains.

“Eeco has established a strong foothold with its excellent mileage, best-in-segment comfort, space and power, at a low maintenance cost. Offering best in class safety, its all-purpose built is ideal for versatile use. The multi-purpose van has earned the distinction of being ideal for family travel, while simultaneously being a dependable business vehicle,” said Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India.

“Taking forward its legacy, Eeco BS6 S-CNG is designed to deliver optimum performance, safety, engine durability, convenience and mileage,” he added.

The company in an official statement said that the launch of new BS6 Eeco is aligned to and complements the Government of India’s vision of reducing oil import and enhancing the share of natural gas in the energy basket of the country from 6.2 per cent now to 15 per cent by 2030.

The Government is working to rapidly increase CNG fuel pumps network in the country. There has been a phenomenal growth of 101 per cent in new CNG station additions in the country in the first 10 months of this fiscal.

A total of 259 CNG stations have been added across India in the period from April, 2019 to January, 2020 versus 129 stations over the same period the previous year.

Maruti Suzuki Eeco is currently offered in a wide range of 12 variants with 5-seater, 7-seater, Cargo and Ambulance options.

“The overall dimension makes Eeco spacious enough to carry voluminous load safely in any weather, while its signature sliding doors eases entry and exit even in congested road conditions. Regarded as the safest van in the segment, Eeco is equipped with driver airbag, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, driver and co-driver seat belt reminder, and high-speed alert system,” the Japanese carmaker said.
