New Delhi: Ramayana is back in vogue and how. After the 80s Doordarshan show broke TRP records with its riveting presentation and stellar cast, another version of the mythological epic, starring Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonnerjee, has started airing on Dangal channel.
The show went on air from April 26 and is being telecast daily at 7:30 PM, followed by repeat telecast at 9:30 am.
“Over the years, our viewers have supported us and it is now upon public demand that we have brought back one of India’s most followed epics and revered show of all times, Ramayana. By showcasing a culturally rooted show like Ramayana with traditional ideologies and strongly entrenched lessons, we are sure that viewers will stay engaged while staying safe indoors. Moreover, while Ramayana will invoke nostalgia among the older generations, it will be a new and beautiful experience for the younger audience,” said a Dangal spokesperson.
Gurmeet who played the lead of Ram in the show is excited about the show’s return. “It definitely is a wonderful feeling that our show is rerun for television audiences. ‘Ramayan’ came to us when we were in the start of our careers and we had no option to choose. We never realised that the show would become so impactful and make us household names that time,” he told The Times of India.
Debina who played Sita and is married to Gurmeet in real life told the daily: “We are grateful that at this time of panic and unrest people are getting to see ‘Ramayan’, in which we played the lead roles.”
