New Delhi: Mythological shows are the flavour of the lockdown season, as they are providing solace to those confined at home and are raking in numbers. The success of re-runs of Ramayan and Mahabharat is the proof that there is scope for more such comebacks.
Another popular 90s series Om Namah Shivay is back on Colors TV and the show’s director Dheeraj Kumar shares his memories associated with the serial.
Om Namah Shivaay, the popular Doordarshan show that aired in 1996 originally and enjoyed a huge viewership, is back on television on Colors TV.
Director of the show Dheeraj Kumar recalls how he spent almost a decade to develop the iconic mythological show. Since this was a new genre for Kumar he wanted to get it right.
“Om Namah Shivay commenced its telecast in the year 1996. However, our research was on since 1987. Nine long years we spent on research for the program. The kind of shows we were doing before were quite different, mostly social patriotic shows and crime thrillers etc. So, we wanted to get this right.”
From bringing experts, writers and historians on board to patiently working on every detail, Om Namah Shivay came to life painstakingly and the results were for everyone to see.
“We associated with professor Madhusudhan Pathak of Oriental Research Institute of Baroda. Initially, We also brought in stalwarts like Achala Nagar who has written Baaghban and Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza who worked on other classic mythological shows and then there was Darshan Laad, who was also the writer of big mythological shows of that time. All these people conducted research in association with Dr. Madhusudan Pathak of Oriental Research institute on Vedas, Upanishads and Puranas to bring our show to light,” added Dheeraj Kumar.
You can watch Om Namah Shivay June 18 onwards every day at 9 pm on Colors TV.
