New Delhi: Along with the many perks of college life, annual festivals are perhaps the most attractive of all and much awaited by students who come together and let their creative sides unleash. This year is different though with coronavirus restrictions in place.

The students of Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS) however did not let the pandemic dampen their spirits as over 300 media students of Vivekananda School of Journalism and Mass Communication (VSJMC) organised a virtual fest that saw participation from over thousand students across the globe.

Excitement was at its peak throughout the three-day extravaganza organised from December 3-5 which took up issues relevant to young generation today. The theme of the fest revolved around digital literacy, media and pandemic and it had a total of 22 competitive and non-competitive events.

Thanks to the virtual medium, there was an overwhelming participation from people around the world. One could see how some of the sessions provided solutions to the problems posed by pandemic in the most creative way possible. Like one of the sessions was called ‘Ad Man’s Webinar’ which talked about the current status of the advertising industry during pandemic. Chief executive at top advertising agency BBDO, Suraja Kishore addressed the participants and talked at length about the ground realities of the advertisement industry.

No fest is complete without some brilliant music. Spandan 2020 concluded with a musical extravaganza where over 100 students participated in Grand Musical Finale including dance, music, jugalbandi and theatrical acts.

“When everything stopped and the world was introduced to a new normal, digital platforms became the only resort for education and showcasing talents, and bringing normalcy in our lives. The media students of VIPS have demonstrated a high level of commitment and sincerity by organising Spandan 2020 on the virtual mode,” said Prof Sidharth Mishra, chairperson VSJMC.

The spirit of the students was palpable even as pandemic has disrupted the normal lives throwing various sectors completely out of gear.
