There comes a time when most of us want to live a purposeful and fulfilling life. We want clarity in our thoughts to achieve goals through focussed actions. But not many people find the real purpose and hence remain busy in daily seesaw battle.
While there could be many ways to find that real purpose, distractions need to be minimised gradually for choosing any path. Inner journey remains merely a long-cherished wish in the mind due to distractions. After all, mind is by nature a wanderer and making it sharp and focussed is all about training.
The moment we are alone and the mind starts going inward we pick up our phone or other gadgets ending the process at once. In this way, so many opportunities are lost and the rat race continues. Since our wishlist for possessions are so long that we rarely get time to press the pause button.
We always want to grow the pile of possessions in our home and add few more friends when out. Alas! They can’t bring long-lasting health or happiness.
One of the necessary conditions for contentment is fewer needs, both in terms of articles and friends. The way the desire for acquiring properties and assets makes the inner journey difficult and arduous, so does fancying more friends. Moreover, befriending not a person just like us but those high in standard and status as the intent is to drive some benefits from the association.
Once on the path of course correction or finding the truth, we must abstain from both the two cravings. We can easily cut the clutter from our room and be indifferent to people who could be potential distracters. Interestingly, the English word ‘room’ means emptiness but we keep our rooms stuffed with all sorts of unnecessary items.
Besides living beings, non-living things too influence our emotions and thoughts. Just imagine a clean, tidy and spacious place you are sitting at. Suddenly, someone keeps a ragged and tattered shoe in the middle of it. Shall it not trigger negative emotion and thought in our mind?
If a lifeless object could influence our thought so much, company of a person could not only influence but shape our personality and hence we must be mindful about making friends or associations. There are chances we would like to prune our current list of associations and stay away from bad influence.
