New Delhi: Vivian Dsena has done some of the most successful TV soaps and dazzles the reality TV stage with his charming persona. But in real life, he is a bit of a recluse and likes to stick to his close circle of friends. In an interview, the actor talks about the kind of shows that excite him as an actor and what makes him happy in real life.
Excerpts:
Q: You have done a variety of shows, all different from one another and alsp reality shows like Khatron Ke Khiladi, Jhalak Dikkhla Ja. So, what is that you want to explore next?
A: I do not like to repeat myself as an actor over and over again with same kind of roles but be a better entertainer project after project. Jhalak was a challenge for me because I am not a trained dancer nor did I have had any interest in dancing. I owe Bhawna Khanduja, my choreographer, big time for it. She had a tough time making me dance and sweet enough to never mention that!
Q: Reality shows give instant stardom. Isn’t it?
A: The faster you succeed, the fastest you disappear. Whatever comes to you gradually, lasts longer. Instant success gets to your head. But if you succeed gradually, you learn a lot and it makes you a better professional.
Q: Post Shakti, you chose to keep a low profile. What kind of work do you want to do?
A: I have always been like this and I like to be in my own space. I have always taken a decent long enough break between projects because it takes a lot of unlearning after you are done playing a character for a long time.
Q: Do you feel favouritism happens on TV?
A: It does to a certain extent but not as much as Bollywood.
Q: With the growth of web series, a lot of work has increased but Bollywood always has this “dream quality” attached to it. Did you ever have Bollywood ambitions?
A: I am content with TV and never had Bollywood dreams because I never differentiated between the two mediums. An actor is an actor whether it is Bollywood or TV industry.
Q: You keep low profile. People may assume you are a recluse.
A: I love being like this. There was a time when I was requested to be social but it didn’t suit me and I was losing myself in the bargain. I cannot lose myself for people or for social norms. Everybody has a nature and I am not changing mine for anybody anymore.
Q: What makes Vivian Dsena happy?
A: Spending time in my own space and with my friends who are my family. Like they say – I got no friends, I got family – and it’s quite literal for me. This is another big reason for assumptions because I have a small circle.
