Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer Gully Boy has been selected as India’s official entry to the 92nd Oscar Awards, which will take place in February 9 next year. It has earned a nomination in the Best International Feature Film. The film, directed by Zoya Akhtar and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar revolves around the life of a street rapper from Mumbai’s Dharavi slums.

The film starred Ranveer Singh as Murad Ahmed, Alia Bhatt as Safeena Firdausi, Kalki Koechlin as Sky, Siddhant Chaturvedi as Shrikant Bhosle and Vijay Raaz as Aftab Ahmed among others.
Gully Boy was selected from a list of 27 film. “There were 27 films in the running this year but it was an unanimous decision to select Gully Boy,” FFI secretary general Supran Sen told news agency PTI.
The film has also recieved the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) Award at the 23rd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) in South Korea and won the Best Film Award at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IIFM), this year.

GULLY BOY may not be the best film among the 28 movies shortlisted to be sent to the Oscars, but it’s a smart choice in terms of bolstering India’s chances. Crowd-pleasing, well-acted underdog story that won’t intimidate Academy audiences.
