New Delhi: Decades after the events of 1991 film Sadak, Ravi Verma (Sanjay Dutt) returns to his familiar Sadak again. He loses the zest for life after Pooja’s (Pooja Bhatt) death and closes down his taxi business, when Arya (Alia Bhatt) persuades him to undertake this road journey that Pooja had already committed to.
What starts as a reluctant journey turns out to be the journey of a lifetime as Ravi joins forces with Arya and her boyfriend Vishal played by Aditya Roy Kapur in their mission to expose a religious guru.
Apart from the high-octane action scenes, viewers can expect a lot of heartwarming scenes between Alia and Sanjay Dutt as the latter while narrating his love story to Arya tells her how his love story began with these roads and ended there.
Arya is on a mission to expose a self-proclaimed religious guru because of whom she has lost a loved one. The trailer doesn’t reveal who the loved one is, although Vishal is seen stepping out of jail to join Arya on her road trip.
Makrand Deshpande plays the role of a vicious guru and he leaves no stone unturned to finish Arya and Vishal when he comes to know about their motive but Ravi not supports them but is also willing to take a bullet for them.
Arya asks Ravi why he’s doing this for them as they are just their passengers. “Tum par ek kharonch bhi aa gayi to oopar jaa kar kya muh dikaunga,” he says referring to his commitment.
Sadak 2 marks Mahesh Bhatt’s return as director after more than two decades. His last directorial venture was National award winning Ajay Devgn and Pooja Bhatt-starrer Zakhm.
The original Sadak was also directed by Mahesh Bhatt and was an adaptation of 1976 American movie Taxi Driver. The film’s story revolved around a taxi driver Ravi Verma (Sanjay Dutt) who after his sister’s violent death is deeply scarred. When he meets Pooja, a prostitute, he falls in love with her and rescues her from the clutches of the main villain of the story–Maharani, the brothel owner (played by Sadashiv Amrapurkar). The soulful music by Nadeem Shravan was another highlight of this 1991 film.
Sadak 2 will have a digital premiere on Disney + Hotstar on August 28. The film was earlier supposed to have a theatrical release, but is now releasing digitally due to Coronavirus pandemic.
