New Delhi: With pandemic accelerating digitisation, Indian arm of global consultancy giant EY has decided to hire 9,000 tech professionals in 2021.

The new hires will take up various technology roles across all member firms including the global delivery centers to expand its digital capabilities and help organizations solve their transformational challenges.

EY in India currently has over 50,000 people across various member firms. Out of these staffers, 36% are from the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) background.

The highly infectious and deadly coronavirus has forced trade and business to quicken their digital strategy. Most companies including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have been adopting new technologies to reduce human interface.

“We are making bold investments in our organization particularly in technology, data and through strategic acquisitions while continuing to expand our alliance and ecosystem relationships. Today, our clients, both in government and private businesses, are embarking on technology-led transformation and we are supporting them in this journey,” said Rohan Sachdev, Partner and Consulting Practice Leader, EY India.

“With the pace of digital adoption accelerating exponentially, we are strengthening capabilities in emerging technology roles and significantly intensifying our hiring efforts in the coming year,” he further said.

The new recruits of EY are to be deployed in the areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning, cyber security, analytics and other emerging technologies.

With the business and individuals adjusting to the “new normal” technology is set to pay a crucial role in future. Moreover, companies which are quick in adopting new technology and align their businesses accordingly would always have first-mover advantage. They will also be able to drive their cost down and serve the customers better.

Not surprisingly, many Indian information technology (IT) firms have seen their businesses growing. Some of them such as Capgemini and CSS have announced to roll out hikes and hire new professionals during the Coronavirus crisis.

Consultancy major EY has been on the lookout for new opportunities in the technology space. This year, it acquired Spotmentor Technologies, an AI enabled upskilling and re-skilling platform to strengthen its People Advisory portfolio of digital services. It had earlier acquired CCentric and Fortune Cookie UX Design.

“EY in India is developing a broader range of new digital proprietary tools and solutions which we are looking to take to scale across organizations and geographies. We are using our sector knowledge to deliver tailored digital solutions and services to support our clients’ transformation plans and leveraging the managed services model to help them navigate the volatility. Our people remain at the center of our strategy to meet the growing demands of our clients.” said Mahesh Makhija, Partner and Technology Consulting Leader, EY India.
