A thrilling crime series, an over-the-top drama riddled with violence and unnecessary intimate scenes, and a couple of exciting announcements brought some cheer for the OTT fans.
While Nail Polish a naibiting crime drama series starring Arjun Rampal and Manav Kaul has received thumbs up from the audience, Ekta Kapoor’s latest web series Paurushpur has been thrashed by critics for its meaningless all-gloss-but-little-relevance content.
Netflix released the first look of its upcoming movie Tribhanga: Tedhi Medhi Crazy starring Kajol and Mithila Palkar in the lead, and Shefali Shah announced her return to OTT with Hotstar series Human.
Here are the top web series news of the week:
First teaser of Netflix’s Tribhanga out, stars Kajol, Tanvi Azmi, Mithila Malkar
On the first day of 2021, Netflix released the teaser of its upcoming film Tribhanga: Tedhi Medhi Crazy. Directed by Renuka Shahane, Tribhanga revolves around three female characters Nayantara Apte, Anuradha Apte and Masha played by Tanvi Azmi, Kajol and Mithila Palkar, respectively. Tribhanga is an Odissi dance pose that is asymmetrical, yet mesmerising, much like these ladies.
Director and Writer Renuka Shahane took to social media to announce the same. “Dear Kajol, Tanvi, Mithila. Or should I say, dear Anu, Nayan, Masha? These characters which were only mine for 6 years during which I mothered, nurtured, shaped, sometimes disciplined, sometimes pampered them, then became yours. You made them your own. Gave them your flesh & blood, vulnerability, and strength, tears, and laughter, making them much more than I had imagined. Tribhanga, Tedhi, Medhi, Crazy, the story of Anu, Nayan Masha, will be seen from the 15th of January 2021 on Netflix. Here’s a sneak peek. 2021 has truly begun well. A big thank you to you Kajol, Tanvi Azmi and Mithila Palkar, the heart, core, and soul of Tribhanga,” she wrote. The film is slated to release on January 15, 2021. The film is produced by Ajay Devgn, Siddharth P Malhotra, Deepak Dhar, Rishi Negi and Parag Desai and co-produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak.

“When her estranged mother falls into coma, a self-made single mom grapples with regret and resentment while reflecting on their strained relationship,” reads the official synopsis of the Netflix movie.
Nail Polish opens to rave reviews
A gripping legal thriller that delves into the complexities of human mind with characters not appearing what they seem to be. Directed by Bugs Bhargava Krishna, Nail Polish stars Arjun Rampal, Aditya Balnekar, Madhoo , Manav Kaul, Anand Tiwari, Rajit Kapur, among others.
A series of brutal murder of 36 children leads police to a very unusual suspect. Surprisingly, these serial murders went undetected for five years without anyone being arrested or charged. The trial is equally intriguing when unexpected twists happen in the courtroom with new aspects of personality coming into fore.
Arjun Rampal plays Sid Jaisingh, a renowned lawyer, while Manav Kaul portrays Veer Singh, the accused in the case. Rajit Kapur plays judge Bhushan while Madhoo plays his wife. The movie started streaming on Zee5 from January 1.
Paurushpur gets thumbs down with overdose of sex and violence
Released on December 31, Alt Balaji’s Paurushpur, directed by Shachindra Das is set in 16th century and is the tale of a kingdom where women have no rights and they are almost slaves to men, forced to wear metal corsets with locks, the keys of which lie with their partners. Opening them is an offence punished by death, mostly beheading. The ruler of the kingdom Bhadrapratap (Annu Kapoor) however has retained all privileges for himself and has married six times. Only trouble is that all his wives barring the first one Meeravati (Shilpa Shinde) go missing.
Filled with overdose of violence, sex and rape scenes, its only highlight is the grand scale on which the series is made. Starring Annu Kapoor, Shilpa Shinde, Shaheer Sheikh, Milind Soman, the series bats for gender equality but goes overboard with the never-ending lovemaking scenes and meaningless slaughter scenes.
Family Man Season 2 to premiere soon
Manoj Bajpayee returns as desi spy Shrikant Tiwari, grappling between family ties and duties for the nation. The first poster of the Amazon Prime Video series released on December 29 . Created by Raj & DK, the series stars Sharib Hasmi, Samantha Akkineni, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Sharad Kelkar, and Priyamani.
The first season of the series received critical acclaim and won the award for Best Series (Critics) in the recently-held Filmfare OTT awards. Manoj Bajpayee took home the trophy of Best Actor (Critics) for the same.
