The year 2021 has started off on high hopes. As usual, most of us have made New Year resolutions but there is quite a chance that those vows were made in previous years too. A few of us would certainly have all-new targets as the ones set earlier were duly accomplished.

In some cases, the old bad habits we wanted to get rid off might have actually turned worse and stickier. This is, however, not surprising at all. All this is quite normal. Didn’t some of our school friends miss the bus while few made big in career of their choice? Most young students have high career aspirations but only a handful of them actually attain their goals. Similarly, all those starting a business or enterprise aim at becoming millionaire but only a few of them succeed.

While there could be a combination of factors behind one’s success, the most crucial among them is intensity of effort and actions. It is simple maths. There would be hardly any person who would not try to achieve his or her New Year target but in absence of right intensity most of us would leave the task incomplete.

Another reason of not achieving the goal is the goal itself. In many cases, the goals are so unrealistic that they are simply unachievable. For instance, one of the most common new-year resolves among most people is to set health right by losing weight, going to gym daily and controlling diets. They kick off the year on high spirits and religiously follow the routine but in just few days they are back to square one.

It is hence important to set a right and reasonable goal which is easy to achieve. Reviewing as to why we failed to achieve our goals in previous years could easily give an idea about what we should target. Many of us cannot rise early in the morning and over the years the habit has hardened. It will be very difficult to change it. Knowing this we should not target to wake up at 4 AM in the morning and going for a walk. Instead we may decide to eat our dinner early which is easier to do. Once we have our dinner early, we will naturally go to bed early and rise early.

In life, we need to make small changes to achieve bigger goals. Then we need to work a bit mentally. All success stories are first written in the mind the same way wars are fought in the mind first. While doing household chores we may keep thinking about health benefits of rising early. It may not work instantly but over a period of time the thought will solidify and turn into action.
