New Delhi: Nearly one-fourth of the country’s population is partly or fully protected against the deadly Corona virus with 32.17 crore doses of the vaccines administered to the adults.

“In a significant achievement, India’s cumulative vaccination coverage has exceeded 32 crores yesterday,” said a press statement from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

As many as 64,25,893 vaccine doses have been administered in the last 24 hours.

As second wave of the pandemic has waned, India has seen the number of fresh cases continuously falling with the daily cases now hovering around 50,000 from the peak of over 4 lakh a day.

Amid fears of a third wave, the government has accelerated the pace of vaccination and aims to inoculate the entire adult population by year-end. It has also ramped up testing infrastructure across the country to contain the spread of virus and ensure early treatment.

With substantially ramped up testing capacity across the country, a total of 17.7 lakh tests were conducted in the last 24 hours in the country. Cumulatively, India has conducted over 40.42 crore tests so far.

“While on one side testing capacity has been enhanced across the country, a continued decline in weekly case positivity is noticed. Weekly Positivity Rate is currently at 2.91% while the Daily Positivity rate stands at 2.82% today. It has remained less than 5% for 20 consecutive days now,” said the government note.
