New Delhi: The screening of Deepika Padukone’s Chhapaak has been restrained by Delhi High Court from January 15 for multiplexes and live streaming apps and from January 17 for other platforms, after the makers of the film went ahead with the release without giving credit to real life acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal’s lawyer Aparna Bhat, said news reports.
According to the advocate who represented Agarwal’s lawyer, the makers made substantial changes to the film post Bhat’s assistance (without any charges) and the conduct of the filmmakers amounted to breach of trust.
A Delhi court had earlier directed the makers to give credits to Aparna Bhat in the credit roll.
According to reports, the makers on the other hand told the high court that Bhat had no legal right, statutory or contractual, to seek acknowledgement for her contribution in the film in the form of consultation, inputs and documents.
The Fox Star Studios had approached the high court against the trial court order that directed them to give credits to the contributions of Advocate Aparna Bhat as the lawyer of the real life acid attack survivor.
Chhapaak is based on the real life story of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal and the film directed by Meghna Gulzar also features other acid attack survivors. The film stars Deepika Padukone, Vikrant Massey among others.
