Post shelving Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt-starrer Inshallah, maverick filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has offered another film to the Kalank actress which would be based on the life of Gangubai, brothel owner of Kamathipura, according to reports. The film is said to be adapted from a chapter of S Husain Zaidi’s Mafia Queens of Mumbai.
Considering Bhansali had given his word to Alia Bhatt, he wanted to feature her in one of his upcoming movies. Bhansali also recently announced a film on PM Modi titled Mann Bairagi which revolves around a turning point from PM’s life.
It is to be recalled that Bhansali scrapped Inshallah reportedly over creative differences with Salman Khan and there were rumours that the filmmaker might revive the film after roping in a new face opposite Alia Bhatt. However, it looks like all this while the talks with Alia were related to this new movie, instead of the shelved one.
According to reports, Gangubai was first offered to Priyanka Chopra but the deal couldn’t be sealed because of desi girl’s commitment to other film projects that include a Mindy Kaling film and Netflix’s The White Tiger adaptation.
Alia Bhatt has confirmed that she will soon be seen in a Bhansali film. “I was very excited to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Salman as well, I believe sometimes certain things happen which are not in your control,” she told reporters on the sidelines of IIFA Awards.
“They say if you want to make God laugh, tell them your plans. Plans never really go ‘as per plan’ but I can give it to you in writing that I am going to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali very soon,” she added.
Alia Bhatt will next be seen in Brahmastra and Sadak 2.
